My rear hatch opens fine, and latches shut when the lift gate comes down all the way. However, trying to get the gate to come down takes about a half dozen attempts. Even when it moves down, it moved down a couple of inches, then goes back up. After several attempts and with some gentle help it slowly moves down and latches shut. Took it to the dealer and they said the ram rod which is on the interior right side of the car has a leak, cost to replace ~$2500. Any thought?

Had this problem with my wife's GL. I popped the switch out of the hatch and saw that there was corrosion on the pins. I sprayed it down with oxidation solvent (for electrical parts) and it has worked fine since.
