SRS front left failure '07 320
There's no seat switch for the driver's seat.
Many people have said a wire frays on the seat belt latch switch.
There are two wires with yellow plugs that go up inside the back of the seat.
I'm assuming one of the yellow plugs go to the seat side airbag, where does the other one head to? I had the seat bottom out tonight and that was a PITA. I got all my wires plugged back in and now my intermittent SRS failure has become a permanent SRS light.
Have I caused the code to become permanent since I unplugged the wires and plugged 'um back in? Any leads here or am I destined to have a money pit in my garage?

You are destined to have a money pit in your garage. MB's engineering is notoriously hit or miss. The body, the engine, the interior - as alx said, these trucks age well. But there are a few inevitable repairs, like the air springs, the cam sensors, the transmission conductor plate ... And, as you figured out, the electrical system is not that great. I've had two significant electrical problems with my GL. Yet still I can't bring myself to get rid of it, because it drives great.

Probably need to replace the conductor plate in the tranny. It did one of those sticking-in-third-gear things.
All four air springs.
Burns oil. Not horrendously, but ... it burns oil fast enough that I don't even bother changing the oil anymore. Just the filter.
One ECU died. Left me stranded. It's hard for me to remember the last time a car told me, eff you, start walking.
Window switch is now stuck.
Had to replace the back hatch motor.
Ball joints in the rear squeak.
Looks like my cats are on their last legs. Unfortunately, I live in California.
Camshaft magnets thingy. I was able to change the magnets on the intake side, but there's too much junk in the way to change the exhaust ones. Fortunately, no CEL errors on those. But I have the magnets, just in case.
Tumble plate in intake manifold: $1600 for a piece of plastic!!!
There's more, but I don't have the stomach to think about it now.
But you know what? I love the interior. I love the German austerity and solidity. I love driving it. (Except for the throttle lag, and I got a sprint booster but haven't installed it yet.) I love how the exterior looks. Jeez - the second generation GLs look like minivans. Went on a camping trip, five of us, all our stuff, sailing up 395 at 90+ mph, didn't even break a sweat.
It's weird. I have a real love-hate relationship with it. There's stuff about it I love, and stuff about it I hate, and not much in between.

I'll have to look for that relay you mentioned. I did notice that the SRS light illuminated mostly around right hand turns but now it's on constantly. My air ride valve block is acting stupid now. Random corners are going down over night. I think it's the valve body because I've tried the high height setting and spray soaping the bags but I saw no bubbles.

The problem with doing the soapy water test at normal ride height is the leaks, at least in my case, were right where the bag folds under. So it could be really hard to spot those leaks when you're at normal ride height.
Listen to alx. He knows his stuff.
