2011 gl 350 breaking apart
I have 58k miles on my gl 350, problems
Started with cel light
1) cel light - ad blue heater fixed
2) oil leak - fixed around 40 parts fixed in engine
3) cel light and flopping noise at start up
Oxy sensors replaced and there was metal rubbing at
The heat shields which fixed the flopping noise
4) cel light back on - went to dealership
Any clue what might be going on.

GL items
I have a 2011 GL 350, I have put 88k on.
Timing Chain is the flopping sound.
Oil leaks, just fix them.
I have had also,
NOx sensors, oil coolers seals, battery, oil filter to block gasket
Still beats a Suburban though, so I continue to trudge along. Gotta get at least 175k to get my money's worth!

For flopping sound they fixed something else like heat shield etc which fixed the problem,
But the cel light is back on
When did you change your timing chain , oil seals etc .
Mine at 58k with all these problems seems too early

GL mileage/issues
I had 45k when the timing chain started to rear its sound. By 55k it was unbearable, at 62k I had it replaced. There is a MB technical bulletin about it (although they do not call it a TSB), nor is it a formal recall. If you do not replace the timing chain it only gets worse. If you wait too long it will prematurely wear out the sprockets associated with cams and balance shaft which is a much bigger job. If its rattling change it out.
Oil cooler seals at 73k.
NoX sensors at 86k.
I have said it before but what is weird is I also have a 2012 Sprinter van with the same engine I bought new that now has 81k and never has had even a check engine light or leak. It has never been back to dealer for anything.

flopping sound
I have the exact same humming/flopping sound when at speeds from 1-4mph and then it goes away. I was trying to see what it is and it is not the exhaust manifold or bushings like someone suggesting. It sounds like metal sheet rattling and now that I see your comment it is very likely to be heat shield that you are mentioning. Can you elaborate on heat shield location and/or PN if you have the invoice from the dealer.
Btw I got the 2011 GL with all the other mentioned issues and at 70k miles currently.
Thanks,
Dreb
