Bad diesel causes CEL?

2010 GL350
Bad diesel causes CEL?
2010 350GL 92k. On my trip to LA from SF, needed diesel and saw Chevron diesel in Ontario area for $2.19/gallon. Filled up 3/4 tank drove 10 mins CEL came on. I suspected bad diesel, it was too cheap to be true. I ran it through MaxiScan OBD2 saw one fault but no code. Unable to erase. It's been 2 full tanks of good Chevron diesel and CEL still on. It didn't impact the driving or MPG, just annoying to see the CEL on. Any idea? My last resort will be bring it back to dealer.

2010 GL350
about 10k miles ago. This was the fourth fuel filter that I replaced, including the heat element.

It may just be a coincidence. Try taking it to an independent shop that can read and clear the proprietary codes.

Your car needs to be read with das. A service engine soon can be lit for many reasons. On a diesel it is usually either a Nox sensor or urea heating element malfunction.... But it could be other things

Might be that Water-In-Filter sensor got triggered by the bad diesel.

I rerun the scanner this time screen showed the EGR has an arrow pointed backward. Still showed no code. Also noticed my catalyst converter was smoking with leaking exhaust smell. Now it make sense because a few month back coolant was running low had it topped off. Engine has been running hot once a while.

I suspect EGR pipe clogged or something related EGR valve. Is it a DIY item?

Diesel engine should not run hot- they generally run so cool that whatever is causing it is a serious issue. Losing coolant? Smoking cat? Have the car read with das. You have an issue.
