ABS/ESP innoperative and car braking by itself.
So a couple days ago my GL450 (2010) ESP/ABS lights came on but i had to go on a trip so i left the car like that at home and was gonna try to figure out what was wrong on my return, so i came back today and the lights still on and when i tried to drive the car it sounds and feels like the left front wheel brakes are applying on their own, the car comes to almost a full stop and the ESP light flashes on my console, what do you guys think of this?..https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif

Very likely that it's a wheel speed sensor. Easy fix. I had the problem on a couple Benz's now. Yours will be the same as my R320. It's usually the front, and because the plastic bracket that holds the cable broke and is rubbing on the axle, or the sensor got dinged while doing brake work.

+1. Had the same problem on 2010 GL550. Funny, I swear it was the same - front left. The brake would apply ITSELF...totally freaked out my wife.
I am looking at the work order and the part number is 164-440-55-41
The description reads: "ABS ESP light comes on and brakes apply by themselves while driving customer reports. left front wheel speed senor has intermittent contact performed short test found codes 5105, 5101, 5102,5100, 5106 R&R and replaced left front speed sensor."

Wheel sensors fail especially in high humidity
based on experience with my 2010 GL350, if one sensor has failed, they all need to be replaced. MB claims this was a limited time production issue, on mid 2009 through late 2010 models, primarliy affecting cars stored in high humidity. They issued a service directive for South Florida and Puerto Rico authorizing dealer to replace ALL sensors if even one failed. Yourseem to have a later model year, so maybe you don't need to replace all. But it is worth asking the question. Kind of scary when the brakes start locking up as you're trying to drive!
