What clock is the maintenance reminder running off of?

I've got 36K on my 2012 GL550. I've had it now for 2 years. It had 19K and some change on it when I bought it. It was supposed to have had it's 20K service when I bought it according to the service records from the selling dealer. It was missing it's dip stick and the oil looked like it had not been changed after I took it for an inspection. The dealer swore up and down the service had been done. Yah right, then where is the dip stick, dip stick! Long story short the dealer paid for a new dip stick and an oil change and I was haply on my merry way. It was almost 20K on the the ODO, 19K and some change before it was going to roll over.

Anyway, I'm not getting 10K out of my service intervals. More like less than 6K each. I've had the oil changed now a total of three times in the 16K. And the message is now back on for Service F.

Is the reminder running off of time or miles or a combo of both? It says now I've exceeded the service by 12 days. This morning at 8:00 AM it said 11 days and 12 noonish it's saying 12 days. Obviously it's not on Eastern time is it?

So what's it running off of?

it runs off miles or 1 year if it appears you are not going to hit 10k miles in less than a year.

in regards to time- it runs off who knows what and frankly it is of no concern as all it does is it counts days since reset.

i have never seen a x164 ask for oil sooner than 10k miles. i wonder if you instrument cluster has been recoded or altered via dev star/das.

I'm going to ride it out for another 4K until I get the full use out of my oil change. I don't put that many miles on it nor am I hard on the truck to warrant oil consumption. I know that really doesn't mean much technically. But I also check the oil level when I wash it.

After having 2 cars stretch timing chains when using a 10k oil change interval I'm no longer going to follow it.

It's likely been changed through the diagnostics. If you do get it changed I would still stick to 5-6k miles for the oil change interval.

I run 10K on my Honda and Lexus without any issues! Must be a German thing?

My VW Touareg, that was a different story! After that debacle I swore up and down I'd never own another German automobile. When I surrendered it, the VW/Audi guy told me to stay away from the Audi if I thought that was any better. I told the guy you did not have to worry about that. I had already been shopping that brand and was turned off with the entire sales concept. Conversation finished!!

The Mercedes is very quirky I must say! My 450 prior to this was not bad. This one for some reason has it's moments. The wife hates the ride, the kids hate the no bluetooth fact. I suspect when this hits the 80K mark I'll be dumping it.

After my last service the maintenance minder told me that my next service was due in 9101 miles or something strange like that. This was before I even pulled out of the dealership. The dealership told me that the vehicle decides the next service.

I don't think anyone knows the real answer or will tell us.
