Steering Column Cover Twisted and Creaking - Help

Hi all

The steering column leather cover / collar on my 2011 GL500 is twisted and when I have the easy entry turned on to retract the wheel on exit etc it creaks like crazy, really groaning like its all trapped or something. Its stuck fast around the column, I cant twist it back with normal hand force, anyone have an explanation and a detailed DIY to rectify the problem please?

Thanks

Carl

A "detailed" DIY? No offense, but are you in the habit of having your mommy come running with milk and cookies when tummy has growlies?

No details, but I remember seeing this on my steering column. It was something pretty simple, but don't remember the exact fix. Play around with it a bit; that's what I did.

That's funny, right there!

Try this... retract the steering wheel fully, then extend it while at the same time holding the plastic "surround" piece so that it comes along with the steering column. Hopefully it comes out from it's hole enough that you can get a better hold on it.

Or spray the whole thing down with a good dose of leather/vinyl protectant or silicone spray to "lube" it so it doesn't squeak.

Not an uncommon problem. I had this problem with my GL. It just needs to be cleaned and lubricated.

Yah, it was kinda simple. Fully extend, wipe down with Armor All, then return. If it gets stuck on the way back in, some plastic piece has gotten above some other.
