Transmission issue...

Transmission issue...
Just purchased a 2012 GL450 for my wife and having several issues.
The one here is got up and drove to church and was fine.
After church is "stuck" in 1st gear. The paddles didn't work so just limped to restaurant and after went to drive home and it was fine.
Took for test drive and shifted flawlessly.
Let it sit for a few hours and drove last night and again was flawless.
Any ideas?
UPDATE: This morning my wife was driving and at stop light the rpm's went to 3k and wouldn't shift out of 1st. It was fine for a few miles then at stop light started this.

car needs to be read with star/ das (a generic obdc reader will not do) as it could be a few things, but my guess is that one of your turbine sensors is faulty. those are integral to the transmission control unit (tcu) which is located on the top of the valve block inside the tranny. the tcu can be repaired by a third party (cost about $350 for the repair alone) or if brought to an mb dealer they will replace the whole tcu board.
