2010 X164 had some grinding noises for about a month when I opened the rear hatch. Dread came over knowing I had to replace it soon. Well, it came at an inopportune moment when I was going home after loading stuff from Home Depot. It wouldn't lock, so I bungee corded the door shut. Taking apart the panels was simple popping off friction tabs and the back panel took a large flat head popping the yellow tabs carefully.
The lock was removed after removing 3 T-30 torx socket screws
Disconnect the emergency release cable.
Then push the lock mechanism backwards through the rectangular opening.

Some are sites are cheaper but watch for crazy shipping charges. Don't bother getting used, unless you are selling your car very soon.
My 2010 gl350 has 118K mi, mostly highway.
Thanks for the reply. I've priced them @ Pelican and Amazon, for $25-35 more, so looks like you got a pretty good price. We have less miles on our truck, but the gate is used a lot, probably four times a day.
Suppose it can go at any time... should carry a bungie just in case!
