High Mileage Bluetec

With all the bad threads on the Diesels would like to see how many members are doing okay and up there in mileage with their Bluetec Diesels.

My 2010 GL350 has 91k going strong. Oil and filter changed every 5k.

my personal 07- bought it new - 130k miles right now - outside of the well known problems has been trouble free.

but i am just starting to see the 500k plus mile examples trickle in... most still running on virgin engines and trannys.

mileage on the om642 is irrelevant. i believe a lot of those engines will reach the million mile mark without much complications.

in comparison the v8 gasoline motors start to have compression and upper end problems around 250k miles.

Well known problems would be turbo seals, timing chain stretch, airbags/struts, air compressor, and tailgate latch?

Struts/ bags, compressor and/or relay, hydraulic pump for trunk lid, turbine speed sensor in 722.9 tranny and oil cooler seals. Almost every truck gets these. The cooler seals is the only om642 specific provlem.

Stretched chain is not common as numbers go. I can honestly tell that 1 in 100 trucks shows up rattling at cold start ie stretched chain.

Have you seen that personally with these engines? I doubt mine is going to take a swan dive anytime soon and I'm not that far away.

I don't have a Bluetec. No chain issues or anything with engine. Oil changes at 10k miles, sometimes 20k if most are highway (2 filters). I would not use the "new recommended" oil that is W30 even if you change it every 5k miles. Use W40.

lets just put it this way- i have seen far more top end engine problems on the gassers with 150k+ miles(broken valves, worn valve guides and cam lobes) than stretched timing chains on the diesels (at any mileage)...

the number of top end problems with high mileage gassers is firmly in my "no comfort zone" while the timing chain on the diesels is really a rare occasion on the grand scheme of things.

Maybe but MB produced what 100x more gas engines in the US than diesels so statistically you see many more gas engines than diesels with varying levels of maintenance. Yes, the M156 6.2 AMG engine was plagued with issues but most of the other gas engines are very dependable.

Something to chew on.
