2009+

Hi,

What we the main updates on the 2009+ models?
Are they more reliable than the earlier models.
Are the Gl350 engines reliable?

Thank you

In 2009, new mirrors and new steering wheel. In 2010, updated LED tail lights were added as well as LED Daytime Running Lights.

Opinions on the OM642 engine are divided. Statistically, however, it is a reliable engine provided it is maintained properly and with care.

I own a 2011 R350 BlueTEC, which shares this engine.

2012 GL 350
I can't find any data on real world reliability of gas vs. diesel (the GL just doesn't sell in huge numbers), but perhaps Consumer Reports or other similar has something. Anecdotal evidence says the diesels are less reliable. My 2012 350 has been very unreliable, with several major repairs in less than 60,000 miles.
