P0670 Glow Plug Controller (more)
After 10 years this is finally my problem, too. I'll create a new thread to list some things not covered in the others.
1. In WIS documentation as well as in EPC, this unit is called variously ...
glow time output stage
glow output stage
Control Unit: glow time output stage
I guess it's just in OBD land it's called a glow plug controller.
2. The latest Mercedes part number is
642 900 77 01
3. It appears there's been a price drop, as the online Mercedes dealer I use charges $142.78 (before freight). I think this may undercut some of the aftermarket sellers.
4. I've owned my 2007 since new and therefore have some now ancient Service DVDs ... the 164 version doesn't cover the diesel engine but the 211 version does and the WIS document for remove/replace is
AR15.20-P-4500TI, Removing/installing the glow output stage.
5. It's really as simple as the video posted in another thread shows, and indeed there is no need for battery disconnection and the WIS document doesn't call for it.
6. This is a self-cancelling CEL, that is, after three drive cycles after part replacement the check engine light is extinguished automatically, no scan tool reset required.
