Question 2008 GL550 steering wheel controls replacement for restoration?

Hey guys,

My 2008 GL550 steering wheel control buttons are all beaten up, any idea how to replace or restore?

Sometimes it can just be a bunch of gunk on there. I have had best results with a damp microfiber towel. As for the white parts, where the black has rubbed off; I have seen decals that you can use to put on there. I cant imagine they'd be any good but may be worth a try. One of the reviews says "very god"... ha

Thank you, I got a quote from my local Mercedes Benz dealership and it would cost $1200 to replace them, so I decided to just buy the parts at $227 each...

cool... what are the part numbers? was that $227 each side or total for the whole replacement?

they had a recall on the steering airbag for the GL.. i had mines replace at the dealer free which also gave me new buttons

part number for steering wheel controls, 164-820-80-10-9116 left and 164-870-02-10-9116 right, got them from https://www.getmercedesparts.com, it was $227 each and $100 to get them installed.
