Gl320 cdi
No acceleration power

Just bought a GL320 cdi a month ago have had no issues until now, driving commute daily at 60 miles round trip at 65mph+
Was driving yesterday and lost power to accelerate or drop into lower gear I assume. The vehicle will drive but has no power, read a bit about how it's in limp mode etc etc. Was wondering if anyone had this issue and could point me in the right direction.

Hey Aoharr, I have the same thing going on, but for two different reasons. If your transmission is shifting gears, but it just takes forever to get up to speed, then I'd say the likely cause is either an EGR problem or more likely a DPF differential pressure sensor issue, which the diagnostic code usually incorrectly assumes its the EGR at fault. The DPF sensor is easy to get to and only costs $30, whereas an aftermarket EGR starts around $300 plus. If it is the EGR at fault it can usually be cleaned of carbon and it'll work again for a good while. It sucks getting it off though, like heart surgery with a proad and a chisel and a dead blow. Took me 2 hrs-ist to get it off and it otherwise looked fine, so I'm replacing the DPF diff press sensor this morning. Hopefully that helps. If you have to remove the EGR, warm the engine up first. It helps when removing, just sucks absolutely laying on a hot engine on a hot summer day.
Now, if your trans seems to be stuck in 2nd or 3rd, your problem is likely an input and/or an output turbine speed sensor. If the trans doesn't know either speed it will stick itself in limp mode for self preservation. Pulling over and cycling key and restarting will usually do the temporary trick, but those sensor(s) will have to be replaced. You can find just the sensors on ebay for ~$40 a sensor and a punch removal tool, you can send the conductor plate in to someone that does this via their website for ~$300, or take it to Mercedes and me reamed nearly $2000. They say a new valve body is required but that's total hogwash. I have to fix both issues on our 320.
I'd start with scanning for codes to start leading you down the right path.
Good luck!

Aoharr, did you get your issue figured out?
I was able to switch out my DPF Differential pressure sensor and that did the trick for me. Again, you'd really have to check for codes to make sure you're heading down the right path. I guess what I'm saying here is, if your diagnostic code points to a bad EGR, don't assume it's actually bad when you could swap a new DPF Diff sensor for ~$30.
