2008 X164 GL450
GL450 X164 New owner

Good Day,I recently purchased a 2008 GL450 (base). This is our 3rd MB that we owned throughout the years. Last one was a 2001 E430 and our first one was a 89 300E. I am still learning the features and potential problems of this vehicle. The vehicle “shudders/vibrates” under medium acceleration around 45mph then stops. Any advice from current owners?

BTW, after driving 300 miles, I scanned the vehicle using an IcarSoft M900 V2.0 and the only error code I got was a tire pressure sensor malfunction. No codes from the engine nor transmission.

It is your tires most likely. Mine became more pronounced when I rotated tires. You might want to have them re-balanced, too. My rims were so caked with brake dust inside barrels that tire shops attempts to clean surface to stick balancing weights was pathetic. Previous owner did not make any effort to keep them clean and use of cheap brake pads that create a ton of dust just created more problems. They were falling off! I spent an hour removing each rim and cleaning them to a new like condition before taking them in for re-balancing. It made a huge difference, but do not expect miracles. Once tire starts wearing even with frequent rotations expect some minor vibration through the steering wheel. You can play with pressures, but it will just contribute to more rapid, uneven wear. It is a heavy vehicle sitting on low profile tires, so it is very hard on them. Just check Tire Rack reviews filtered for the GL. Michelins and Pirellis rated for 60K miles are done by 30K at the most. There is really nothing that can be done about it.
