2010 GL450 and 2009 c63 AMG

2010 MB GL450 114k miles

I’m trying to figure out what needs to be done here what this part is and how to access it. I have the GL on a lift and I was changing my starter yesterday (relatively easy btw) and noticed some oil in the pictures shows just above the starter. Today driving I smelled the burning oil stopped immediately popped the hood and saw some smoke so now I have it back home and on a lift and I’m trying to figure out what’s next. Does anyone know what this is?
how to access it?
gasket? Seal? New cover?

any advice would help greatly!

Got the cover taken down and have located it from the top. Some kind of venting system? Pictures attached please help someone 😂

PCV valve? Took it out ordered a new one $46 looks like the diaphragm in the old one were worn out.
