Yes, there is a Mercedes service bulletin about this.
The solution is to replace the current motor with a new one.
The bulletin is LI88.70-P-050725 and I don't appear to have an electronic copy.
Mine has options 249 (auto dimming) and 275 (memory) and part numbers are 164 810 15 93 and 164 810 12 93 left and right.

If you are really good with touch up paint, you can make it look OK.

My glass and outside housing are still good and in tact.
just an update on this I got the car painted and after it came back the mirror worked perfect....for about a month...now its clapping again. I don't understand why it stopped and not it's starting again.
