How much tranny fluid if I drain the TC too?

I ordered the $184 kit from FCP Euro and I received 7 liters of fluid. Should that be enough to do the torque convert too?

What is the correct torque for the replacement aluminum transmission pan bolts?

No, you'll need 8.5l of oil for a full trans fluid change if you drain the torque converter

722.9 fluid change volume

Thank you for this info, but, why does the FCPEuro 7 minute Youtube vid say that only 4 to 4.5 liters is needed when doing a change w/o the torque converter? I think I have read that the TC change requires about 2 l. which would mean that the 7 l. I received in the FCPEuro 722.9 fluid change kit would do both the TC and the pan only change.

My kit came with a green overflow tube. I have read about the early black tube and the later white tube. When is the green tube used? If, when I remove the tranny pan, I see that I have a white tube and it is a different length than the green tube which do I use?

there are about 5 quarts in the pan and the valve body.

another 2.5- 3.0 quarts in the tq- but it drains very very slowly so be ready to wait it out

Probably because you're going to have a hard time finding a way to drain the torque converter.

draining TC

After just finishing the job here's my take.

Since I had 7 L. of new fluid in the FCPEuro $184 kit I decided to let 1.5 L. drain from the TC and reinstall the TC drain plug. The fluid drained fairly rapidly in my case. It took about 2 minutes and it was easy to reinstall the drain plug to stop the flow at 1.5 L. It was also an easy one man job to turn the crankshaft bolt with a 27mm socket and watch the TC turn until the drain plug came into view.

The next time I do this job I will have a new TC drain plug with new gasket ready to reinstall and will let 2 L. drain from the TC which will give me an almost complete fluid change using the 7 L. in the kit. This will require that I have no waste or spills of the new fluid. I will install the full 7 L. and I am confident the fluid level will be correct.

I snugged the new aluminum pan bolts down evenly by hand and then torqued each one to 4 N/cm or N/m. I read somewhere on this forum that you are supposed to turn each one an additional 180 degrees after torquing but I just checked each one for even tightness with my ratchet by turning them maybe 1/8th of a turn. I have no leaks after about 100 miles so I feel good about that.

I do plan on using FCPEuro's lifetime guarantee whereby they will send you all new parts, including fluid, if you return their parts you removed from the car. It looks like shipping will be about $40 from the West coast but for a $184 credit I can live with it.
