DPF cleaning/regen - adaptation needed?

Hi,

DPF in my GL350 is totaly full of soot. I've planned to dismount it and get it to workshop to clean/regen it, but there is one important question. Do i have to do any special adaptation/programming in ECU after mechanical cleaning?

On my dashboard there is check engine and Torque read DPF error, Performance is normal. Some times during logner trips check engine goes off, but after i.e one day comes back.

Is dismounting DPF and mounting it back hard to do by myself?

What year? Pre-SCR DPF's are pretty simple to R&R. DAS does have the option to "readapt" the DPF which basically gives you the option to do an initial start up with either a used or new DPF. If you dont have DAS or Xentry, It should readapt on its own.

This is 2011, GL 350 CDI 4Matic (195kW). There is no SCR. I don't have DAS or Xentry I will check ability to readapt on its own. If something goes wrong I'll take it to shop.

Tkanks for your quick answer

A word of the wise. While you're going through the trouble of cleaning the DPF, go ahead and replace the DPF pressure sensor. Its cheap insurance (<$30). Almost all of them eventually short out from the accumulation of condensation. If you dont want to replace it, at least disconnect the lines, remove the sensor, and shake it to remove the water.

Mine had a tablespoon of water in it when it was replaced.

Thanks for advice. I'll change sensor to new one

I just cleaned a DPF on a 2011 GL320 with Liqui Moly cleaner. I was skeptical at first but am sold after performing the cleaning. It isn't necessary to remove the DPF either. Remove the temperature sensor, spray the cleaner and let sit for 15 minutes. Then, spray the second cleaner and reset adaptions. Perform long highway road test. Unfortunately, you can't manually regeneration on the passenger vehicles only Sprinter Vans. I also used my bore scope to take before and after pictures.

OK, but how can I reset adaptions without Xentra? Is there any way i.e remove battery or something else?

if you just clean the dpf there is no need to reset adaptations.

however, if you have das/ xentry initiating a regen is a good thing to do

You would have to reset the adaptation with a SDS/Xentry.

Suppose you have never had the experience of cleaning the DPF. In that case, it is better not to do such things yourself because you can damage the DPF due to improper cleaning and assembly. Therefore, if you do not have experience yet, I would advise you to contact some service that deals with DPF cleaning or regen. For example, I contact this service every 3-6 months -- 30minutedpfclean.com so that they clean my DPF, and they do it perfectly and do not ask for money so much for their services. However, I have friends who are engaged in DPF cleaning or regen themselves. True, they have a lot of experience in assembling and repairing cars.

This is horse**** "advice". It's a simple procedure with the Lubro-Moly system and there are plenty of DIY videos on youtube. As mentioned above, you might as well replace the DPF Pressure sensor while you are down there.

I did the Lubro-Moly service on mine. No Xentry or DAS. No issues.
