Should Exaust Minifold be replaced when replace turbe?
OK, Got my DPF deleted for my GL320 to resolve the everlasting lamp problem. However, when the job is done, and the mechanic went for a test drive, then, my turbo has blown.
I knew there might be something wrong with my turbo, consume oil (1 qt every 300 miles) and huge backpressure. anyway. The shaft has broken, time to replace the turbocharger.
However, the guy at the shop told me I should replace the exhaust manifold as well. His reason was the manifold was built with two-layer metal and the high temperature of the exhaust the inside layer metal would crack and the small metal scrap would flight to the turbine and damage the turbine. If I only replace the turbo, it won't be lost long.
Is this true? anyone ever heard of this? I am surprised. I thought to stand the temperature, the exhaust made to last. Anyone with same experience? have you been asking to replace the exhaust manifold when replacing the turbocharger?
Thanks
