Ceika coilover conversion

Howdy folks,

Just wondering if anyone else has seen these? Full coilover conversion for an X164. Only issue is there is no bypass solution for the airmatic system. I've read that the ECU can be tricked into thinking it's a GL320. Here is the Ceika link:

https://ceika-store.com/products/ceika-type-1m-coilovers-for-mercedes-benz-gla-class-x164-06-12?_pos=1&_sid=247c7e8e2&_ss=r

Anyone have any thoughts about Ceika? Thinking of turning my 2012 GL550 to an overland rig.

Thanks

have not - but I’m not sure that tricking the ecu into thinking it’s a gl320 will do anything, as the gl320 also has airmatic.

I also don’t think there is anything stopping you from installing this wrt overall car functionality - you’d just be staring at a persistent airmatic error message when the car tries to lower itself at highway speeds, or when you press the raise button. And the car obviously will have a higher center of gravity.

That was the worst outcome I noticed when I drove around for a day with a pulled airmatic circuit breaker.

I believe all GL's came with airmatic. There are plug-in Airmatic emulators out there to trick it to think the airmatic is working when you convert to coils but they're $$$.

Would you happen to know who sells these emulators? Only one I've seen is from strutmasters. But you need to buy a full set of struts and springs for the rear. They dont sell the emulators separately. Thanks

i had an airbag leak on the right front earlier this year and contemplated changing to a coilover kit, but when i started really looking into it, i came to realize that you lose a lot of nice aspects of the airmatic, but also when the coilovers are worn out, where can you have them rebuilt? i have coilovers on my little subaru and when researching what shops can rebuild what brands of coilovers, it steered me away from certain brands due to the inability to find places that can get the parts you need. keeping that in mind with the gl, i figured it wasn't worth going with coilovers to probably have to buy a whole new set again in 5-10 years if i couldn't find anyone to rebuild the coilovers.

i did find that you can get bilstein direct replacement struts on amazon for cheap. i found some front struts for about $450 each shipped, so i replaced both fronts at the same time. i like that i can still use the airmatic to raise and lower the ride height and that the self leveling still works.

just something to think about. if you don't want to deal with potential headaches, i'd say stick with the air suspension. there's also the possibility that you could end up spending as much trying to get the coilovers and a way to defeat the airmatic errors than just going with the bilstein struts.
