AvinUSA CarPlay issue

I installed the AvinUSA head unit in my 2012 gl350 a couple a weeks ago. I bought the wireless carplay adapter with it. I am trying to use it simply wired, however it does not recognize the phone. The phone works flawlessly via carplay in my gls550 and e63s, so I know it's not the phone. I have contacted Avin but so much gets lost in translation that their customer support is completely useless. To those that have the head unit/ carplay adapter, what exactly did you do to get it to work? i have it enabled in the factory settings menu.

ALSO, does anyone else have the loud POP once the system shuts down? Pretty annoying. I'm just trying to get this this working properly for my commute to work as I impatiently await my P3D to arrive then I will be selling the truck lol

I am assuming you already installed the app on the unit. There are settings to enable automatic connection when the adapter is connected. Do you get to this screen?

Try hard restart by removing the radio fuse (number 25 on the rear fusebox) or using the reset pinhole.

The loud pop may be related to how your MOST adapter is powered.

thanks for the reply. I powered it exactly as instructed, ground on pin ( I wanna say 12) and both circuit 30/15 to the blue wire which label alludes me. What app am I supposed to install? I swear if it's as simple as installing an app I'm going to go cry in a corner

I just installed that unit and the wireless connection for CarPlay works great. I have not tried it wired. I do not get any pops or strange noises. Is there a reason you don't want to use wireless? This unit connects much better than the last AVIN unit I had which died. The old unit required some playing around with it every time I used it.

While we're talking, the head unit plastic mounts on my new unit are crap. You know, the little L brackets on the back of the head unit which fit into the holes in the car mount? They do not sit flat and I can't get the car mounts to close. I've been trying to get AVIN to sent me new mounts, but for some reason they are resisting. They want me to disassemble the face plate and try to install just that. I can't for the life of me understand how that would help. Arrrrggg

I ended up trimming the ends of those with a razor blade so it would fit. How can I make it work wireless? I just want it to work, period. Avin has given me ZERO information. I’d make it work wirelessly if I had the slightest clue how to lol

Yeah, the support is virtually non-existent. So, you have never connected. Ok, this is what has worked for me.

First you have to turn on the hotspot on in your iPhone. This will put out a wireless signal to the head unit (HU). Then you go into settings on the hu and look for your iPhone, which will show by whatever name your iPhone is tagged with. When it shows, you tap on that, then input the password which shows on your IPhone. That will hook you up wirelessly, but not thru CarPlay which is what you want.

Sorry, you have to have a browser installed in your HU in order to download the file. I can't remember if Chrome comes installed or you have to download it.

Once you are hooked up via hotspot you have to download this apk file. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yPv...ew?usp=sharing

Once you download and install that file which seems to install on the little black box, you have the little black box right, and it's hooked up to a USB port on your HU? Anyway, once you install that file you can connect wirelessly into CarPlay every time. I have the apk file which I can send you if you contact me. It's a 7.5 MB file and apparently the limit on this site is 5MB. That is if you can't download it from the link above.

Here's another link they gave me:

https://support.avinusa.com/hc/en-us...arPlay-Adapter

Let me know how this works. Hopefully I have not left out anything. It actually works great once you get it setup. Much better than the old unit. CarPlay is much better than going thru the Android HU

What is the connection process with CarPlay every time you start the car? I currently have the phone paired with the head unit, but it's a pain to open the phone, go to Personal Hotspot, then on the headunit go to Wifi and ask it to connect to my hotspot (sometimes it finds it automatically if I wait long enough)

When you start your car, does the unit boot up and show Apple icons like Waze and Music right away? Or do you have to do anything?

Wife is looking for an easier solution and I think I might just buy her the wireless CarPlay adapter.

Hi, yes it is a pain to go thru Hotspot every time. I suggested that to give you a way to get online ONLY to obtain the apk file.

Did you download and install the apk file? If not, it won't work. Once you have that file downloaded and installed - it will intall CarPlay. There will then be a CarPlay icon on your HU. Once installed and you follow the instructions shown in the video to set it up for automatic connection, every time you turn on the HU it will go thru that short process of finding the iPhone and hooking up to CarPlay - automatically. If at any time it doesn't work you can tap the CarPlay icon and it will go thru the process again to connect to your iPhone. You must also have the - watch video while in motion (I think it's called) - switched on. I believe that is in the instructions. The CarPlay works very well. Much much better than the hotspot. method.

To those our there who have the old unit that uses the Hotspot to connect, I highly recommend the new head unit. The connection to CarPlay is very easy. There is a problem with the HU mounts. They are plastic crap and sit incorrectly. You either have to shave them off or find another way to make them sit straight in order to get them into the car mount. I am still struggling with that.
