Clean the fuel cap gasket with silicon grease (or replace it); and the metal contact on the vehicle with petroleum jelly. Wipe dry, and ensure it is free of any rubber debris. Do not clean the gasket with petroleum jelly since it will eventually eat through the rubber.
When your fuel cap is properly sealed, you should hear a bit of a suction sound when you release the cap to refuel (this is indicative of proper vacuum),
It will take a couple of cold starts for the MIL to reset.
