Reset Transmission Adaptive Shifting – How to Programming Instructions DIY
The article states it works on almost any model. I followed the instructions and I couldn't tell much of a difference in shifting points.
My transmission has never "shifted hard" (knock on wood). At 125xxx miles, I've never changed the transmission fluid or filter. I know, I know, send the hate mail haha.
I've never towed anything either but, that's not to say previous owners haven't.
I've owned the 2010 GL550 for approximately 4 years. I live in Saint Louis Missouri and the GL came from Florida. I found beach sand in the cabin air filter housing years ago when I replaced both of them.
Has anyone conducted this procedure? The article states to do it once a month.

which I suspect was due to a failed snap ring on the b1 clutch pack. no amount of relearning can fix a hardware failure.
To do this properly for your trans you need a machine like Star thats capable of resetting actual adaptations. For diesels, a lot of complaints actually lie within the TCC. Older versions of star (<2013 or so) will only have you adapt the TCC using 2 simple procedures - temp & torque range. Because these versions are dependent on the trans temp being above a certain level before you can adapt by torque range, you never really tune out cold issues. You want a version that will let you adapt the TCC 3 ways - several torque ranges in different gears, several hard accelerations from a dead stop in 1st gear(slipping), and thrust where you revv the engine to 3k in 2nd gear then let it fall on its own to below 1500, then you accelerate hard back to 3k over and over. These can be adapted regardless of temp and have the ability to cure most cold and hot issues. Unfortunately, some valve body EHS versions simply cannot be adapted or programmed to be smooth as others. Not even variant coding will solve it.
BTW, you do NOT want someone to reset adaptations without doing the teach in procedure after. Will shift like crap for weeks. My best advice is to not reset adaptations, but do the teach in procedure alone for TCC, downshifts, and upshifts. There is a simple downshift teach in procedure in Star that has relieved about 80% of the 2-1 downshift bump I had with my 08 GL320 & EHS# of 1906. It involves getting the car up to 7th gear on a level road then coasting to a stop without braking until its in 1st gear. There are 3 temperature ranges that need adapting, but star will only have you do it once at medium trans temp. The TCU will then use that single reading to estimate the adaptations and fill them in for the other two ranges. I dont do that, I do a teach in for cold, warm, and hot independently.
Dont try this without Star because it wont do anything and you'll beat your head against a wall.

Thank you for the clarification. When I posted this, I literally copied and pasted the title of the article posted in the Mercedes Mechanic website.
As I stated above, I've had zero problems with my transmission and/or hard transmission shifting (knock on wood). I'm a little concerned about doing the pan drop and changing the filter because its so smooth on my 2010 GL550.
Again, thank you for clarifying this.
