NON Harmon Kardon stereo in my 2012 :(
Leaves a lot to be desired in my 2012. My friend has a 2007 with the Harmon Kardon and his stereo sounds amazing compared to mine. Firstly, I can't even believe that Mercedes offered these as a basic and Harmon as an upgrade. Second, the non Harmon sounds worse than the basic stereos you get in economy cars these days. Is there any upgrade available? I am really disappointed. The stereo is weak, sound quality sux to the point that it is really embarrassing to turn on if others are in the car. 😳
ALSO, The only sound controls I see are Bass and Treble. 😱 Are there any other controls that I'm not seeing on this unit? If so, how do I access these?

Well the good news is that non-HK cars are easier to upgrade. You can replace the HU(highly recommended). Also, new quality speakers, amp, and a sub will beat any HK car. Even though my car has the HK system, I installed a new system from scratch.

I replaced the factory Nav with Kenwood DNX995S. I had to buy CTKMB22 kit from the UK. The kit contains the following:
1- HK amp interface
2- Steering wheel control interface
3- Radio antenna adapter
4- Double Din fascia + metal bracket
The is system as follows:
- Focal FPS4160 Amp for the front stage and subwoofer
- Focal K2 KRX3 speakers for the front stage
- HK rear speakers driven by the factory HK amp
- JL audio CP108LG-W3v3 subwoofer
The steering wheel controls work as intended. The sound is heavenly.

Depends if the car has fiber optics or not, since I have seen non-HK cars that have it. However, you still need the required adpaters to connect the factory HU wiring to the new HU, and the SWC. I suggest you contact https://connects2.com/ support.
Good luck!
