A89 code??

I am trying to order a transmission filter for my 2012 GL450, trans # 722904 03 544936 and all of the ads say code A89 or non code A89, what is code A89 and why do they have to make things so difficult?

It’s not difficult at all...just google a89 and Mercedes and you’ll have your answer.

Likely you have it. Cutoff was mid 2010.

I believe A89 is the code for the "engine auto start-stop" feature.

Sorry to bring back up an old thread but I have the same question. When I bring up the info for my VIN do I look under all of the codes listed in the lower section or under the actual the transmission number in the top section ? Mine shows :

Transmission 722964 02 597048

Release Date 2010-02-08
Delivery Date 2010-02-09

There are no references to A89 that I can see. Does this mean I do not have A89 and would use the RED fluid ?

thanks in advance !

How are you bringing up the info for your vin?

When in doubt, you can always call your MB dealer to confirm the code.

I'm sorry, I didn't see the post earlier where datamb was recommended. The data card will display all options your vehicle is equipped with in the form of codes. A89 is one of those codes. It should be towards the bottom of the list. Options with codes which are all digits would be listed first, followed by codes starting with letters, in alphabetical order If you don't see it listed anywhere on the data card, your vehicle does not have the option. In that case you would order the red fluid and also all other appropriate/correct parts which are necessary for the AT fluid change or flush.

Based on the dates in your post, your vehicle seems to be produced and delivered before option A89 was offered on the X164 platform.

FCP Euro is a reputable vendor where you can order the entire kit for the job. They are helpful in making sure you get the correct kit as well.
