Driver side auto unlock/lock not working

Evening all,

Driving a 2008 GL500, RHD in Australia.

Over the weekend our drivers side auto unlock (reach to handle and it unlocks) function suddenly stopped working. Neither the reach auto unlock or exterior lock button work.

When any doors are open the instrument cluster presents close doors before locking. Interestingly all other external handles function as per normal.

Any similar experiences before I start pulling off panels? Maybe, simple as a stuffed lock button constantly sending a lock command to the central locking system?

TIA

Daryl.

Similar thing happened to me. It seems that the lock button on the driver's door, since it gets pressed the most often, develops a small crack in the rubber thereby letting water in and shorting the electronic part. I just swapped it with the driver's side rear (they are an exact match) to verify that's what the problem was. It only takes a few minutes to remove the entire handle. That was about 4 months ago and I have yet to replace the rear door handle (now the bad one)... probably never will.

Oddly enough last night I was laying in bed and thought the same thing as you described below. Thanks for confirming my thoughts.

Did it this morning and budda bing all good again where it counts. Really not fussed on the rear door working the way it should for now. I'll have a look at replacing the button and gasket at a later date.

Sweet! Gotta luv free repairs... OK, the rear handle is still jacked, but still... I'm counting it as "free"!
