Anybody try Lithium Iron batteries?

Anybody try Lithium Iron batteries yet?

The only local version available here maxes at 30AH and 800CCA only.. They say it's equivalent to 100AH regular batteries.

~same price, 50% longer warranty, 1/2 the weight.

Well the battery is in the cabin so factor that into your decision. I guess as long as if the battery doesn’t kill you in a rollover accident LiFe batteries should be safe, but why? AGMs are cost effective and have a long service life, especially OEM. I have replaced three original MB factory AGM batteries at 12, 14 and 13 years of service life. That’s nuts.

wrt the AH discrepancy, I don’t see how AHs could be different - should be an apples to apples comparison matter what reaction provides the power.

Here, with our warm tropical climate, AGM's only last 2 years reliably. it's like clockwork here (cost is about USD200 local brand, USD600+ for oem brands)
Dealing with dead batteries on 4 cars every other year, is just a pain.

From my quick google searching 1) recharging is faster and efficiency loss during transfer of the power is better on Li batts, thus requiring less energy stored 2) Only 50% of the AH stored or something like that of an AGM is useable, whereas more is useable on a Li, so less required to be stored and 3 ) something about resistance is 1/3 of that of AGM, so apparently that makes up the rest of the difference of the 30AH vs 100AH... but this is all based on quick searches...

Anyways, looking for real world experience.... sounds like a whole new ball game when it comes to these batteries..
Wouldn't mind having the app for battery health and reserve power (so you don't need to jumpstart) that they tout with these new lithiums.

I've convinced myself to try it.. but the local Li version only rates to 800 CCA.. since it's not cold here at all, I'm wondering if its sufficient based on other's experiences

So the thing to watch out for is the Li batteries have a completely different charging profile. They are most happy if only partially charged. You may be aware of that from your smartphone and other devices or also the discussion around EVs. The more time a Li battery spends fully charged the shorter its lifespan, so proper battery management is an important part of using a Li battery. Also if charged improperly, and especially overcharged, the battery can catch fire, so Li charging circuits generally monitor the temperature of the battery and adjust the charging accordingly to make sure it doesn't overheat. Again plenty of examples out there from people charging their phones with a knock-off charger from China that wasn't properly designed for Li batteries and then the phone goes up in flames while the owner is sound asleep. If the car isn't designed for a Li battery it won't charge it properly. You even need to use special battery tenders for Li batteries. Can't just use a regular old trickle charger designed for regular and AGM batteries.

Considering that lithium batteries are basically firebombs, and the GL's battery is right next to the fuel tank, and having watched the occasional DID HE DIED video of some poor guy trapped in a burning car ... no thank you sir.
