Left headlight HID not working, cabling issue
Hi all,
My 06 GL500 has intermittent left headlight low beam HID issue for a couple of days and today it failed completely.
I've cross checked HID bulb/ignitor are both working. There's no sign of issue on the cable/plug.
Checked fuse map that one fuse is for all the headlights. My right headlight is still working.
Well, then most likely it's the control unit.
Anyone has replaced the control unit with some steps?

It sounds like you have short circuit somewhere.
The cables have been known to fray and are possibly making contact inside the headlight assembly. Have you tried using a multi-meter to check for voltage on the circuit within the headlight assembly, and at the external connectors to the assembly?

The plastic wiring cover inside of the headlights will start to flake off and make contact with other wires. If this is the issue, there are a few solutions. You can repair the wire that is touching, replace the headlight wiring harness, or change the headlight with a new one. I chose to replace both headlights. The wiring coating was completely falling off most of the wires. That along with cloudy headlights, inside of housing, led me to replace the whole assemblies.

Yes, the cables are really bad. maybe due to the high temperature inside the lamp housing. Really poor design.
Anyway, yesterday I have aleady done the 'short circuit' test and no issues. And I've further extend the cable and wrapped the broken part. Rest inside the lamp house I can't see. Yet I feel it's always the worst to the ignitor plug end.
