Running a set (still need to find 2 more) of these 20x9.5+43 wheels for the winter on my 2011 GL550
I have heard of people running a 275/55/20 but haven't seen pics. 275/55/20 comes out to 810 mm OD.
What about a 285/50/20?
Lots of winter tire options in either size.
What have you personally run in a 20? Im trying to maximize sidewall height. I may run a 10 and 20mm spacer with these.
My stock wheels are 295/40/21 with a +37 offset. Full lock the front edge of the tire is pretty close to the front fender liner. This comes out to 769mm OD for current wheel.
For winter tires I prefer to run the smallest width I can get away with. Main benefit is higher sidewall and smaller footprint which increases lbs per sq. inch of contact patch, for better traction. It's arguable with 4x4 that you don't necessarily need the smallest contact patch, and it depends on weather and road conditions here you are, as well. I'd go with 275/55 between your two choices. I run 255s on 19 inch wheels on mine, for reference.
Ordered a Toyo Observe G3 Ice in 275/55/20. Will mount it up on the front and test lock to lock in the driveway this friday. If its good, order the others.
The 275/55/20 JUST fits at full lock with this 9.5+43mm offset. Im goign to space the rears out 15 mm to be +9mm proud of the stock 10+37mm 21" wheels. Front I wont touch as I like being able to go lock to lock with no rub.
Waiting for the other tires to come in so I can road test them. Ordered some of the plain black adn chrome with no laurel leaf center cap logos for the winter wheels.
Strange..I really like these S63 wheels, but with lo pro tires..look funny with a baloon tire on them.
