I own a 2011 GL 450. My question is that the instruments symbols that are above the knob where you turn the headlights on do they illuminate at all. Now, the symbols to the left of the knob lights up but not above. I went to the Naperville Mercedes-Benz’s part department and asked the elderly gentleman there. He was of no help. First, he was like how old is your vehicle, which I felt slighted by this comment . He basically said unless I know somebody who has a 2011, I was SOL. He did not call anybody or provide me with any help so I am reaching out to you guys to see if you guys know this answer.
No they do not illuminate.
That kind of treatment sounds par for the course when going to an MB dealer with anything out of warranty. Find a good Indy for your needs and ask questions here. Welcome!

Not related to the illumination question, but to the switch "module" that you posted a photo of. That black part of the module looks to be "sticky" as is mine. Any thoughts on cleaning it so it is not longer sticky? I noticed it after I had it detailed a few years ago...maybe he used too harsh of a chemical on the "rubber," and I never did anything about it. But now seeing the above picture, it looks like it is "sticky" as well.
"STICKY"... there's at least a few threads about this if you want to search, but.... it's the soft-touch material that is used - it just breaks down over time. Same thing happens to the steering wheel buttons. Goo Gone will remove the sticky layer. You'll be left with a "non" soft touch feel, but it it still feels fine and looks MUCH better. It won't damage anything else. It's just tedious work - lot's of little pieces of paper towels/q-tips/etc.

Thank you. Never did a search because it never really bothered us. We never touch it, as it's always on auto. Haven't noticed the stickiness anywhere else.
I did a search after your comment and it seems some (not in the GL forum) had their parts replaced under extended warranty. I never thought to bring it up, oh well. Maybe I'll bust out the goo gone sometime. Thank you.
