Undocumented Features
There appear to be surprising undocumented features to our GL's. Here are three I have observed.
1) The engine cannot be restarted (the starter does not crank) if it is stopped when the gas tank is low.
2) The vehicle senses gasoline vapors in the cabin and opens the windows and sunroof slightly to ventilate. I am carrying two empty gas cans, so the cabin stinks like gas. When I returned to my parked vehicle, all four windows and the sunroof were opened a crack.
3) When flashing the high beams repeatedly and rapidly, the system turns on the hazard lights.
Anybody care to confirm or deny, or add to the list, be my guest.

Interesting. I haul gas in the back fairly regularly in the summer for the boat to avoid paying marina gas prices and have never triggered window/sunroof opening, but I use racing fuel jugs that seal very well, always wipe any gas spills off the outside of the jugs and open the rear vents. I can usually smell gas, but it isn't that strong and I always take the jugs out as soon as I get home. Never tried 1 or 3 although I can confirm the car will not start in a pharmacy drive thru once the fuel pump fails.
Not sure if it is documented, but one thing I've learned is that the lighter socket for the rear seat stays hot when the ignition is off, while the one in the center stack does not. I'm not sure about the one under the dash as I never use that one.

Yeah my gas cans are old school el cheapo. Good for an emergency, but really should be stored outdoors.
Ah yes, the good ol' power outlets.
4) The "Remain On" outlets only remain on with the ignition off if power is being drawn when the ignition is switched off.
Six hundred pages of documentation, with countless space dedicated to CYA warnings, but actual features remain undocumented.
This could be a reflection on German software.
