Looking to buy 2008 GL320 as a tow vehicle

Larry, something to add since the vehicle will be sitting unused for a while... Try to keep the tank topped off to minimize air space (moisture). Also, use an anti-bacteria fuel treatment - while it's unlikely, diesel can sometimes get a bacteria growing in the fuel that would clog things up. FPPF, Stanadyne, Power Service (and others) are all good companies that have been around for a long time that would have a good product. They're pennies per gallon and it would be similar to using a stabilizer for gasoline for extended non-use times.
Another additive to consider, especially if you are in a cold climate, is an anti-gel. If you're constantly using the vehicle, this is much less of an issue since the local fuel stations will switch to winter fuel - but if you fill up in September, for example, and then don't use the vehicle again till a cold day in Winter, the fuel "could" gel up.

don’t know if you’re being serious, but the CDIs had a host of related issues with the EGR system coking up the intake flaps and triggering limp home mode events. On top of the underengineering of the cam drive, oil cooler seals etc...
