Question ECM Swap?

So I'm currently having a big issue. The other day, my truck wouldn't click, crank, or start. When I turned the key to 2nd and 3rd position, I had power (radio, lights, etc.); however, when trying to start it, nothing happened. I had the truck towed to my mechanic and he's saying that the ECM needs to be replaced. I contacted the dealer and they want $1600 for a new one, and it's only available in Tennessee (I'm in Jersey). So I've saw some used ones online for a whole lot cheaper, but with different part #s.

What I'm wondering is could I swap any ECM from the 07 GL450 into mine? I checked the official MB parts store using my VIN and they're only selling the ECMs w/ one particular part #; however, it also mentions that it replaces all other part #s for the 07 GL450. So shouldn't any ECM be allowed to work if you reprogram it? My mechanic says that he can have it programmed for me.

BTW the starter, relays, and battery are fine, so those aren't the problem.

What should I do??

Hi did you ever fix the problem with ECM? Does the part # matter?

On 2017 I had a issue like that and I had to replace the EMC, it was caused by the alternator voltage regulator that wasn't working well and sending peaks of 17V. Well, I bought a new ECU without any program and all the settings of the old one was transferred for the new one by a professional, also the key module (EIS/EZS) had to be programmed to work with the new ECU to start the engine.

Ah, interesting; so the voltage regulator might've played a role. B/c my mechanic said my ECM burnt out.

Same Issue

I have the exact same problem. I was told it was the starter - forgive me for not being savvy with regards to more serious vehicle issues. Just looking for help.

Could be the starter; but I knew that wasn't the issue this time b/c I changed mine last year.
