X164 ('12 GL350) needs new engine
We have a '12 GL350 w/145,000ish miles and it has been a boat hauling champ for us. On the way to the lake last week, it just stopped running. No engine light, no smoke, no misfires. I kept pressing on the accelerator wondering why we had no power. After coasting to the shoulder, the starter wouldn't turn it over. About a month ago, we had the timing chain replaced due to chatter. After that, it was running perfect.. until it wasn't The Indy shop pulled the oil pan and there is no shavings, but they couldn't get the engine to turn - even with a breaker bar. The recommendation was that pulling it apart to find out what is wrong, is probably not a good use of $s. His guess was a fused bearing.
It is paid for and the rest of the vehicle is in great shape. So, I think our options are 1) take a chance on repairing the engine, 2) purchase a junkyard replacement engine, 3) purchase a remanufactured engine. Are there other options I am not thinking about?
We are still waiting on the AEM recall to be done... I am guessing there is no real opportunity associated with that?
Anyone have experiences with engine replacements? A good source?

While I sympathize with you for your loss, you have a blank canvas here…
motor is seized and will do it again, so don’t throw money at a rebuild. I think you’d be hard pressed to find a good known used junkyard engine at a reasonable rate because the main reason these end up in the junkyard are grenaded engines anyways…i would not fork over for a rebuilt OM642. But you might luck out and find a crashed 350 and get the motor and tranny from that which is a relatively simple swap.
