2 other options are LKQ or your local pick n pull - but you gotta bird dog the latter for any incoming X164 or W164 and get the set before someone else snags them.
ive also had good luck on eBay buying individual wheels to make a set around $100 a piece, but now that shipping/freight is heinously expensive, you decide.

wait what is this local pick and pull you speak of? How can I find them? Do you have any pictures of the wheels in your GL? What size did you go with?
Pictures of my Baller 18” OEM wheels that I found on eBay for my Goodyear wranglers ?
You don’t want to see that.
pick and pull is a brand of national wrecking yards that lets you into the yard with tools to pull your own spare parts off the donor vehicles there before they go to crushertown.

lol ok
most you pull it places I’ve been to don’t have wheels
The pick-n-pulls near me pull the wheels off before they get set down in the yard and they sell them near the entrance. In the 3 or 4 years I've been watching, I've only seen one W164 and one X164 pop up in the 4 yards within 50 miles of me so they're hard to come by to say the least.
I did see an X164 wearing the wheels from a GLS the other day and I gotta say it looked super sharp. I think your best bet is keeping eyes on Craigslist or FB marketplace for someone selling their old wheels after installing aftermarkets. I did that for my W212 and got a beautiful set of OEM wheels with nice tires for 1k.

that’s exactly the type of deal I’m looking for. How do you search? I wouldn’t mind venturing into other models but is there a way to easily search so I know what will fit?
It's a little trickier since there's so many variations of the GL (350, 450, 550, 320, etc) but if you're after just 550 wheels, not so much. I would search for "x164 wheels", "gl wheels", "gls wheels", "gl550 wheels" and so on. You might try a broader "mercedes wheels" search and just know you'll have to sift through a lot that just don't apply, but it should be obvious from the picture in most cases. In my case I found a guy that needed the funds from his OEM wheels to use as a down payment on some aftermarket wheels I met him at the shop he was buying from and they swapped them out for us. I think he just listed them as "mercedes wheels"
There's websites that provide info on wheel sizes that will help if you're looking to see if wheels from a G or GLS would fit, for instance.

thanks that’s great info! I’m not set on the 550 wheels but I don’t want to go lower than 20s. I will start looking today in hopes of finding something
keep in mind the offset of the 550 wheels. They are +37 which looks find on 550s because of the fender flares. On a GL/ML without flares these wheels will be sticking out of the wheel well a bit.

i found a good deal on these…how can I find the offset and if they will look right?
The offset is specified in the listing. it is ET +38. it is also stamped inside the wheels and has the format ET +xx where xx are two digits. The 21 inch wheels which came standard on the 550 are ET +37, so these wheels will look flush to the car as the original wheels. My concern is the width of this wheel. it is 11 inch vs the original wheel's 10 inch width. I don't know if the GL has enough space to accommodate 11 inch wide wheels. It might, just not sure. You'd have to measure how much space you have between the inside of the wheel and your suspension.

So these are 550 wheels? I have seen them on a lot of GLEs lately…to measure the space would I just do that with a tape measure or would I have to lift it? Could I slide under and eyeball it or take a picture?

what would happen if there is not enough room?
Is your car a 2007?
I don't know which models had the wheels from the ebay link. I gave a reference to 21 inch wheels which were standard on the x164 550s for comparison.
When measuring for wheel fitnent, you must be sure you have space. Otherwise your new wheels will rub into a component when turned in or out or worse, you won't be able to mount it at all because it comes in contact with another part. You don't have to lift the car and you can use tape. Be sure you're measuring the distance between the wheel and the closest part to it which does not touch it. If you have more than 1 inch, you should be alright. I woild hope for at least 2 inches of space.
Look at willtheyfit.com for reference and run the numbers for both wheels.
I did it too. The new wheels might be a bit too close to the suspension.

yes it’s a 2007 but I have stock on there right now…when I did the calculations this is what I came up with

If your current wheels are 18 inch, they're not 10 inch wide or have offset ET 37. I would say they are 8 inch wide and probably offset in the 50s.
Find your wheel here https://www.originalwheels.com/mercedes-wheels/
The 21 inch wheels which would have been standard equipment on the 550 will fit your car. I guess it became available in 2008, not in 2007, but that's not an issue. The 21 inch wheels are 10 inch wide. The challenge is to determine if a 21 inch wheel which is 11 inches wide will fit. You must measure to be sure, or call a tire shop locally. The latter might be best.
Your 18 inch wheel specs, if I sleuthed them correctly
The 11 inch wide wheels will look really funny on your car unless you add fender flares like the 550 had. I would look at other wheels, with offset similar to yours, ET +53, and maybe 9.5 inch wide at most

wow you were spot on…I might just buy aftermarket cause this buying used stuff is getting confusing…though the fender flares are a horrible idea
I found some 22s off a S550 that are 22x10 but the tires are Delinte Thunder D7 285/25ZR22 95W XL
I'm a bit worried that the tires won't work or will look weird
