Will tow hitch from a W164 fit my X164?

I'm looking to install a tow hitch on my 2007 GL450 and saw a 2008 ML320 pop up at the local LKQ and was wondering if the tow hitch receiver from a W164 will fit my X164, I was comparing ebay pictures of them and they seem identical. I'm not concerned about the wiring harness part, I plan to custom wire the plug directly into my tail light. The part numbers for the hitches seem to be very close too, it's part # 164-310-28-95 for my X164 and 164-310-27-95 for the W164.

The kicker will be what part number is returned if you do a search for an X164 hitch. If the W164 part number is return then you could assume that it fits, but I would not take anything for granted it does have a shorter rear overhang than the GL does.

Yes, they are interchangeable from what I have found. The discrepency in part numbers is most likely due to different variations Mercedes had made over the years. The early round tube design has been known to have the welds fail.

thinking you are going to set off an electrical / bulb fault indication nightmare if you splice in without having some type of isolation for the trailer lights... I had to get some expensive converter that only offered a 4 way flat trailer out option and pulled fused power from the rear passenger side cargo area fuse box for it... ill attach pictures if you need them... it will take you just as long to install but you wont have the bulb is out notifications on your dash and I am thinking the vehicle cannot actually provide enough power for additional trailer lights....
