Going on the forth speed sensor in 2 years

2012 GL450 with 132,000 miles on it. How often do these go out? Light came on, front wheel acts like it is trying to lock up while turning at low speed. Is this just a thing with this car?

Nope, two on the front and one rear. Now the left front is out again. I would be worried about it but the front trying to lock up at times due to the ABS freaking out worries me. The first time it happened when I first got the car I thought that I was looking at a front differential going out. But someone here told me that it was just the ABS acting up due to lost signals. So I have two more ordered and will keep a front and rear spare in the glove box. I try to buy the most expensive ones that aren't OEM but they are all probably from the same batch from China just in different packages.

Anything not purchased at a dealer is Chinesium. Especially for electrical parts, buy only MB parts from an MB dealer.

oh. By reading the sequence of things it seems like you changed them one for one when they failed - these sensors are always changed in pairs, per axle with OEM Sensors, not alibaba Specials.

If you don’t the other sensor will fail in short order. If you change in pairs you can expect a longer service life from both.

cue “this makes no sense” comments.

The wheel speed sensors on the GL should only be an MB factory part. Do not use anything else or you will be constantly chasing the failures. Ask me how I know.

This place is a joke.
Yep, wheel speed sensors on these is not the time to be cheap. Use OEM MB parts as others have mentioned, and they will likely last as long as you own the car. They must be updated parts as I've replaced hundreds and haven't had a single one return. Note, the front sensors sometimes require updated brackets along with an updated brake wear sensor wiring harness.

Thanks all, I will replace both sides with OEM parts (ouch). I just wish that the engineers would have put the plug on the outside of the fender well instead of the inside. If I remember right the worst part of the last repair was the plug.

I used genuine MB for the front and ATE for the rear and so far so good. I'm pretty sure ATE is the original manufacturer, FWIW. I got them from FCP Euro so if they do go out again, all I have to pay for is shipping
