NOISE GL 450 2008
Really needs some help here. Been chasing noise that sound like was coming from front end of vehicle. does not make sound in reverse, but when driving makes sound as if half shafts were knocking. Changed both half shafts but sound persists. change power transfer/front differential, no change to sound. Still sounded as if half shafts were thudding as vehicle traveled down the road. thought maybe was in drive line so I changed the drive shafts. Sound persists. About 8 months ago I replaced the transfer because chain guide had broken after chain stretched. Put back together sound persists. Checked other day chain on transfer stretched again. But the sound of the chain stretched (gear skipping) is different from what I am hearing. Any one with ny ideas on this please do enthrall me with your acumen. (Stole that last part form Hannibal) Jokes aside could really use your help here. .

Have you tried chassis ears? Seems like after several components being replaced and the noise continuously persisting still, the ears would help narrow down and hopefully eventually locate the source.
