If you want, I can look up in WIS what is the sealing method. Knowing MB, it is probably a silicone bead.

If it isn't leaking oil yet, I'd just scrub the rust, clean thoroughly, and repaint with it on the motor.

Shoot some PB Blaster on it, soak overnight, and be careful to not strip the drain plug head. No way would I go to replace the pan because of some surface rust and a stuck drain plug. It will cost you money, be a fair amount of work, and probably leak afterward because if you're anything like me, you screw up everything you touch.

I have not drained the oil in my motor in 140k miles. Warm the engine, vacuum out the warm oil, and you're good to go. The only reason for doing the bottom side drain is if you are pressed for time, like you are a repair shop.

By the time you need to actually loosen that drain plug that motor will be toast anyway… Just no reason for ever having to drain the oil out of a Mercedes engine they are all designed for Topsider extraction. I wouldn’t worry about surface rust, I would worry about internal rusted for borescope or something like that revealed it in which case you got bigger problems going on.
