Bosch Starters - New - at Rock Auto

Seems like a pretty good deal. I bought one just to put on the shelf, anticipating that my Chinesium starter will not live very long.

BOSCH SR0827N $157.79
Shipping Ground $13.99

This was only about $tenbux more than the reman, with core charge - and if mine is going to live indefinitely on the shelf, I can't do the core.

Amazon just dropped the price on their remanufactured version to about the same as this, about $five less, after shipping.

Of course it is MADE IN CHINA, but I can hope that Bosch exerts quality control.

I wonder if there is some weird glut rn. Or demand has fallen off. Anyway, might not be a bad time to stock up on parts you can expect to need in the future. Shipping costs could go through the roof if the diesel shortage materializes.

You of course hope that Bosch USA exerts that quality control, since there will be zero German involvement in the process. Bosch USA can’t even supply correct spark plugs for these engines, and they aren’t the source for anything MBUSA supplies.

Bosch doesn't supply anything to Mercedes, huh?

I thought I remembered seeing BOSCH on the OEM spark plugs I pulled.

Improve your reading skills … Bosch USA supplies nothing to Mercedes. It’s virtually a separate company.

it’s Bosch USA supplying the rebuilt starters in USA aftermarket

as for spark plugs, Bosch USA versions are resistor plugs. The OE plugs aren’t.

How do you know Bosch USA did not provide the starters installed in the U.S. production facility? The starter I pictured was for a U.S.A. sale.

A U.S. subsidiary is hardly "virtually a separate company".

I wouldn't get too worked up about the resistor. For what it's worth, the resistor probably helps prolong the life of the ECU driver chips. But that is your choice whether to fret over it.

It's just some random picture of an OEM starter.

The Bosch starters mentioned - I highly doubt they have a MB logo on them.

Maybe the reason you are having problems with Bosch spark plugs is because your GL's motor is a diesel. They don't use spark plugs.

The blathering about "separate companies" got me thinking. I wonder if, because Germany's economy is "less than optimum" these days, Bosch GMBH is struggling to get revenues up. Maybe Bosch is cutting prices globally to stoke demand.
