Short Belting the M273!

So I figured while I had the fan out, to change the power steering reservoir and clean up a decade's worth of leaked power steering fluid, I would check if short belting is feasible, and if so, what size belt to get.

I took a cloth tape measure and wrapped it around the three pulleys, power steering, crank, and AC compressor, and noted the distance. Then I bypassed the AC compressor and compared the distance. It was almost exactly three inches less.

The standard belt is Dayco 5060945. The last three numbers are the length. Dayco 5060915 is three inches shorter and the same width, etc.

When I was thinking the M273 and M272 have the same pulley arrangement, I bought a Dayco 5060925. I am tempted to put it on. Miguk Saram said he ran a 92.5" belt with no slippage, though I am not sure how you would know. It could be the standard belt size has unnecessary tension.

Anyway, 91.5" should be the perfect short-belt size.
