2016 GL 450 Service Manual reccomendation
Hello folks, not sure if this is the right place to post this since I'm new.
I have a 2016 GL 450 and want to educate myself on the maintenance requirements. I want to purchase a hard copy, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Wrong forum, but the answer applies broadly: I downloaded the manual for my GL from the MB web site.
The owner's manual maintenance schedule is not all that useful. There is maintenance, e.g. transmission fluid changes, that is not adequate as specified in the manual.

Your vehicle arrived new with a hardcopy Maintenance Booklet to supplement the owners manual. It basically details the schedule and doesn't include work procedures. You can order one from your dealer and you may be able to find one electronically, perhaps at mbusa.com
There really are no paper published service manuals for Mercedes ... rather Mercedes service procedures are online with a system called WIS ... workshop information system. There will likely be at least a thousand separate documents for your vehicle and you will not find one that doesn't hyperlink to another. You can subscribe to this ... a professional shop subscribing will pay $20K+ for an annual subscription. You can possibly subscribe for 24 hours for something like $75. See https://www.startekinfo.com/home for details.
There are criminals out there that sell WIS pirated information on ebay.
Legend has it that Mercedes' print shop burned down in the 1980s. There are indeed printed service manuals for earlier cars.
At forums like https://mbworld.org/ there are users that had subscriptions that have attached copies of various procedures to forum posts. For 164, the best bet is the ML forum and user Maj. Dundee. Just search your topic.
Once upon a time members of https://mbca.org/ could query a volunteer member with a WIS subscription. Haven't looked recently.

In any event all his posts are still here and these aren't new vehicles so most issues are covered and search will find them.
