scratch on coolant hose

coolant hose received from rockauto for my my other SUV (not GL), with a scratch on it,
not sure how it is created (if it is caused by materials cut away, or squeezed during hot forming of the tube?)
depth of the valley is about 50% of the hose wall thickness.
wonder if this would be a big issue (causing rupture/burst in the near future)? thanks

Does it penetrate the fiber belts between the inner and outer layers of rubber? If not, I'd run it and not worry rather than try to navigate the RockAuto return labyrinth. And I buy enough from RA to say that.

It may well be fine, but I would get a replacement sent on general principles. Would you have bought the hose if there were a disclaimer "hose has cut going halfway through hose wall; probably okay to use"?

Now just one GL450 with EORP.
Almost looks like it has been ran in some thing already

Totally understand and agree with that statement, but I've heard rumors of the Return Hell that is the rock auto return system and would consider my time worth more than the price of ordering another new hose.

I had no issues returning two rear shocks with RA FWIW

did not see any fiber exposing. I found this scratch the last minute,
should have done a better check of the hose the day it was delivered.

That isn't a "scratch", it's a gouge and looks like it was burned in. There are also calcium deposits on the hose. Like others said, that hose looks used. My guess is it's a return that just got reshelved.

thanks for the info.
since no materials are removed, and the dip is hot formed, hopefully its strength is not compromised too much.
I found this defect at the last minute when replacing the radiator, thermostat, water pump, etc. and decided to put this on instead of the 10 year old hose.
This is a lower coolant hose, with lower operating temperature. and now I almost check it daily.
just ordered another hose from Lexus north Scottsdale, price difference is only $10 ($30 vs $20).
from now on will remember to order parts like this from Lexus dealership only.

It probably won't be a problem. I'd be more annoyed about getting a damaged/used part than worried about it failing. But I'd be inclined to change it earlier than I otherwise would.
