RockAuto closeouts

I just picked up a couple of low dollar closeouts for 164 chassis . The bearings are good for front and back on a W-164 and Rear on X-164
The inner tie rods are Moogs for $5. i have only changed 1 set of inners but for $5 will keep them on the shelf.

If I didn't already have a spare I'd jump on that bearing as we're getting to that age where if bearings haven't come up they will. The whole reason I have that spare is because I bought it from partsgeek that had them incorrectly labeled as all 4 corners for X164. I only bought it because I started hearing that slight noise that I thought might be a bearing but not enough I could feel. I don't put a lot of miles on it so it took several months before it became very apparent it WAS the front right bearing. Thank God I already have the spare, right? Tore the entire hub down and stripped it to take to a local shop I'm friendly with that said they'd press one out and the other in for free. Imagine my surprise when they didn't match and I had to go home and wonder what mistake I made. At this point I'm not sure what bearing I need and I can't wait for ground shipping for another with the car in pieces. Ended up scrubbing down the original to find the minuscule serial number and order it off Amazon that said nothing about what it was for but I needed it NOW. Thankfully I only overpaid about 30 bucks. Contacted partsgeek and told them they needed to fix the listing and they have since.

And that's the short story of how I found out X164 has different front and rear bearings and keep that rear on the shelf to remind me to do your research before pulling the parts trigger.

Yes W-164… ML’s take the same smaller bearings all around but the X-164..GL’s take the larger front bearings… I just put a pair in the front of my GL.. they had magnets on both sides so no mistakes.. bought them on closeouts from Rockauto also.

Yeah this was several years ago and I wasn't hip to rockauto yet and there were less options available. Looking today while I'm pulling other parts triggers both sites have vastly more options and thankfully they're marked correctly, but I did still see ONE on RA that claimed both front and rear. tsk tsk

Not on closeout, but the Bilstein rear bags & front struts/bags are cheaper on RA than wholesale cost (basically BOGO) for anyone looking.
