The duo Martha the GL450 and The Harlem Edition, Smart 451all waxed up and ready for bed.
Looking at this picture I see a Thule Alpine roof box on Martha towing The Smart on a little trailer headed for California. Ñice nice nice.🥰

I ordered the OEM oil filler cap and some AutoOne H7 Led bulbs. I use the AutoOne H7 bulbs on my Smart and they really light up the road. So if they don't work out in the Big GL they will just be spares for the Smart. I have a Mobil 1 oil filter and 8 quarts of Mobil 1 0w 40 oil so once get the cap I will go to Walmart and pick up another 5 gallon jug. That should give me enough oil for both cars as the Smart takes just over 3 quarts and it gets changed every 3 thousand miles.

With Her new lug bolt in place Martha spent a little time in the country north of NYC. Down to a oil filler cap and passenger side exhaust heat shield to be 100 percent factory intact.

The Amazon Deliverer also dropped off these AutoOne H7 bulbs. Now I have these installed on my Smart Fortwo and swear by them. The ones ont Smart do not have the fans.
However I figured I would try out the fanned ones on Martha.
First thing although they are plug and play on the 2014 Smart car. They are not plug and play on the 2012 GL 450. There are tabs on the GL 450 bulb holder that needed to be flattened. I would almost not recommend them because for that as with the headlights in place on the car it takes more patients then many people have and I can see opportunity to break the a wire or the housing which would be a real problem.
Right where my thumbnail is that tab and the one straight across from it have to be folded flat.
As the standard H7 on the left fits over those notches the AutoOne led does not. So making that adjustment is required in order the get the bulbs seated in the light housing and turned the lock them in.
Knowing that and taking my time.
Resulted in this low beam difference from standard H7 bulbs low beam on the right.
And this high beam AutoOne bulbs on the left and Standard H7 bulbs on the right.
With all four AutoOne H7 Led bulbs in place pictures taken at 3pm with plenty of sunlight I believe I will be happy with these in the dark hours. Note I already turned off my always on daytime running headlights. And will likely no longer leave my lights on Auto mode. And just turn on the lights manual when need as I don't want to burn out the LED's sooner than I need to.
I do need one low beam dust cover.

Make sure you take extra bulbs with you in case these fail. Some of the reviews indicate they have a tendency to fail. The other issue with LED bulbs is they have a half-life and weaken considerably.

And I have one old but extra bulb from the first set in the tool box.
But best practice especially on road trips would be to keep an extra set of bulbs in your road trip kit. But knowing you can always swap the high beam bulbs over to low beam if needed to is a comfort.

As I continue to look at the front of this GL45O the more I want a simple chin lip. Something like this ....
...up under there. Time to take some measurements.
