Custom Ordering: Timing, Pricing
Hello all. New to the forum so please forgive me for any etiquette miscues...
I'm planning to order a new GL and was wondering what I should expect in terms of delivery timing from order to receipt of the vehicle.
Also, is it possible to negotiate a good price when you are doing a custom order vs. taking existing inventory off the lot? I'd love some data points on what prices people have been paying for their custom order vehicles.

We're just getting started with the new model, so there's a not a lot of pricing information flowing yet.
Some of the expectations are dependent upon the model. I picked up my ordered GL350 yesterday. I was asking them how sales were going. He said they can't get enough GL350's. He said he had a buying customer in the office and he couldn't find one for him. They didn't have any coming that aren't spoken for, dealers aren't trading them, so it's tough. As a result I haven't seen them negotiating much on the GL350's.
They had a GL550 in stock and perhaps you could negotiate a better deal on that. But pricing starts in the 90's and many potential GL550 buyers seems to be waiting for the GL63 AMG.
Ordering takes 2-3 months.

Welcome! I ordered a GL450 in 07 when they first came out and then again in 2011...... Both cases it was close to 3 month wait. Just ordered a 2013 and it looks like the 3 month timeline remains! Part of the timing is dependent upon how specific you want to be ( flexibility ) ...... I want it exactly the way I want it......therefore, the longer the wait! Pricing? Right now there is very little give on pricing....speculation is that you might see some give about the last week in December depending upon your location and overall demand......unfortunately, the December issue of Motor Trend will have a feature article on the vehicle as "SUV of The Year". .... Which won't do much for price negotiation!
