I finally picked up my GL550

Its here with surround camera and easy entry second row. So far it is great, amazing handling with active curve system. The only disappointment so far is the absence of the third row roof cover. Ordered 9-21; Built 11-14; Delivered 11-27

Awesome, congratulations! The wait is over. Enjoy the ride.

I'm taking my first extended trip this weekend in mine. Should put about 600 miles on this weekend. With my diesel that's a tank of gas. I'm so looking forward to it.

Niiiiiiice!!!
I can't help noticing it but the new GL's facia with a big mouth looks it's eager to hand out BJs. Seriously though, congrats on a nice looking SUV.

Can you take pictures of the rear side sunshades (option 297) and the panoramic roof over the third row for me please?

Thanks. Dude- looks like you got almost every option. Awesome!

Your new GL looks great! Congrats.

How does the power second row work? Is it only power down but not up?

And have you made any decision about addressing the lack of sun shade in the third row? Given the low sun in the winter, you probably have some time to figure that one out. I'm thinking a ceramic window tint may work best.

Kind regards

Thanks for those detailed pictures. It now looks like that rear side sunshade is much easier to retrofit into a car that doesn't have it than compared to the past where it's in the door panel itself.

BTW how does the 360 camera work? Can you explain the system a little bit and how to activate the front or side cameras?

Easiest way is the copy the explanation from the operating manual, which i can send you if interested.

The 360° camera is a system consisting of
four cameras.

The system analyzes images from the
following cameras:Rear view camera, Front camera and Two cameras in the exterior rear view mirrors

The cameras capture the immediate surroundings of the vehicle. The system
supports you, e.g. when parking or if vision is restricted at an exit.

The 360° camera images can be shown in full screen mode or in seven different split-screen views on the COMAND display. A split-screen view also includes a top view of the vehicle. This view is calculated from the data supplied by the installed cameras (virtual camera).

The 7 split-screen views are:
1top view and picture from the rear view camera (130° viewing angle)
2top view and picture from the front camera (without displaying the maximum steering wheel angle)
3top view and enlarged rear view Rtop view and enlarged front view
4top view and trailer view (vehicles with trailer tow hitch)
5top view and pictures from the rearward facing mirror cameras (rear wheel view)
6top view and pictures from the forward facing mirror cameras (front wheel view)
7 The top view and trailer view are available for vehicles equipped with a trailer tow hitch.

When the function is active and you shift the transmission from position D or R to N, you see the previous view in the COMAND display. The dynamic guidelines are hidden. When you change between transmission positions D and R, you see the previously selected front or rear view.

How's the tension on the rear window shades? Also, have you noticed a lot of sun getting in at the top of the window, where there is a gap between the drawn shade and the top of the glass? How's the fit and finish of the unit? Finally, when the shade is drawn, does the door lock pin disrupt it when it goes up and down?

Sorry for all the questions! Finalizing my order and your car is by far the most optioned on the boards! Thanks!

Do you find the camera intuitive to use? Is there any easy way to get the front camera on/ is it wide enough of an angle to see both sides of the street when pulling out from a tight spot?

It seems like the lack of a shade for the third row is a real miss. I wonder when they will fix the issue. Also, the rear sunshades really looks aftermarket. Surprising given the quality that the one in the S class has.

camera is intuitive and you can get to it easily by pressing SYS button or by assigning programable button to it.

it is wide angle, will try both sides of the street view and see if it is adequate

Thanks for the info on the camera system..... I have it ordered for my 450 and was wondering how "simple" it is to use the system....from reading the info you posted, I would assume it will take some getting used to!

Roller blinds for rear side windows [3]
The roller blind on the rear window can be electrically extended to give protection against the sun’s rays. It’s integrated into the parcel shelf in such a way as to be almost invisible; and because the film used in the blind is perforated, there is almost no restriction on the driver’s rear vision.

The rear shade is standard on the GL63 but not sure I was expecting the roller blind you have.... are there two types or have I misinturpreted the above discription?

Either way beuatiful SUV, counting the days 'til I get my own!

That seems like a typo to me. The way the description reads, it's describing the rear shade for the back windshield on sedan models:

The W221 S Class also has optional power side window shades.

Anyways, on the GL, the shade for the first and second row pano roof are power operated. The 2nd row side shades are manual operation.

The shades only come on the second row windows and are manual, I have it ordered on mine, there is about an inch gap left open on the top so it does not cover the window up entirely but it is a bonus since you get the tinted windows and the shade.

I have called MB Canada on 3 occasions to have them fix things about the Gl on the website. They also had eco start/stop as standard equipment but this is non existent in 2013 MY
