Anyone order the cargo box?
I have a Cargo box that I was using on my R-Class and I'm wondering:
1) can I use it on the GL? since the cross bars are different
2) Will I clear my garage door opening? The GL is a good 7.5 inches taller... which in pure terms should put the top of the cargo box at ~92 inches, but since the cross bars are different I'm not sure its an apples to apples comparison.

1. Typically speaking the crossbars and cargo boxes are standardized in such a way that they work with a variety of either bars or accessories. It should work with the GL.
2. How are we supposed to know? You didn't mention the height of your garage door.

Guess I was hoping someone had one and could give me a max height measurement. I'm having the height of my garage increased to 8 feet i.e. (96") all things being equal. As the garage is now, at 82", the R-and cargo box don't clear.

Also depends on which cargo box you have as well.
I assume you're looking into getting a GL and seeing if the cargo box will fit in your garage?

FYI, Thule makes a low profile cargo box. The 633 Sonic is only 11 inches high but only offers 11 cu ft of storage as well.
Another option may be Thule load bars with their 460 Podium foot. I think it's a bit lower than the Mercedes branded set from Thule. You may gain an inch there.
Or, better yet, just pop the box off when not in use. It only takes a few seconds with the Quick Grip mounting system on the current boxes.
Any of this would be cheaper than having your garage doors replaced and the opening on the house modified.

You know, the cargo box the dealer gave us doesn't have the quick grip. It has a bolt that needs to be slid into the center of the cross bar and then tighten with a small knob inside the box. I was surprised. I think its the old Thule system.
