23 EQS 580 SUV, 19 X7 (sold), 17/14 GLS550 (sold) 13 GL550 (sold)
I've had my GL550 for 5 months and really have enjoyed it. I get more comments like "I love your car" than any other car I've ever owned. It is truly the cream of the crop of luxury SUV's. As for the 2nd row headrests, I can see where they would not work out for owners with small children or child seats but several of my adult passengers have commented that they actually like them and that they feel comfortable. So it depends on your specific needs and usage.
I have very good friend who owns an X5 (he is a big BMW fan) and just love my GL550. I think he is seriously considering making the switch himself.

i haven't had as many compliments as you, partially because the white is BADASS with the bumper cutouts and large grille contrasting the body color. steel grey is a little more muted and understated, but i still love it. i get a lot of compliments on the color more than i do the X166 or 550 part

I just got off the phone with my dealers parts department and they can order the door lock pins but they are $40 each! They just ordered what they thought was a set of 4 pins for another customer and only one pin was in the box. Then MB told them it is $160 for 4 pins. Why would they even sell these one pin at a time and not as a set of 4, just crazy?
The dealer is aware that it is only $40 to have a new GL built with all four pins included.
Hopefully someone posts a link to a 3rd party that sells them for much less.

We just purchased a 2014 GL 550. We have a 14 year old son and he sits in the back seat while my husband and I are in the car. The backseat headrest is so uncomfortable my son complains about it all the time! There is no comfortable position regardless of how high or low you put the head rest. We've only had the car for two weeks and wish we had had our son with us while test driving it. He cannot stand sitting in the backseat and after I sat in the backseat myself, I can't say I blame him! For a $100,000 luxury car I expected more! Buyer beware! Other than the back seat comfort it seems to be a pretty nice car.

GatorG... if you have EZ-Entry motorized 2nd row - then the headrests are designed to retract/lower automatically. So that they can retract/lower - the headrest is in a "fixed" position.
Headrests without the EZ entry are similar in design - but offer different/better comfort depnding on height/size of 2nd row passengers.
Do a search of this forum - there are some modifications that can be done by a sympathetic dealer - not this will mean the headrests will need to be lowered manually before rolling up the 2nd row.
One "mod" removes a clamp/ring that will allow the headrest to "swing" back at the bottom of the headrest - the 2nd "mod" removes the locking clamp that will allow the entire headrest with rods to be pulled up and removed.
Keep the beat !

If we remove the headrests as suggested, then it becomes a safety issue. I just wish they could slide back like the drivers and passenger ones do. They would be much more comfortable and yet could still retract to the original position when using the EZentry. The front seats are power and the back should be as well. It would totally work that way. If they slide down, they should be able to slide front and back.
Anyway...thanks for your comments and suggestions!

I love my GL550. I've had it a couple months now, and get lots of compliments on it. Its ride is buttery smooth, it has plenty of power, lots of cool features, an awesome road presence, etc. Teens in the 2nd row say it's the most comfortable car they've been in.
The only area I downgraded it on in the JD Power survey response was the dim backup lights.
